Brandon “NuNu” Kennedy, senior quarterback for the Elysian Fields Yellowjackets, is the kind of player who does it all — and then some. This season alone, he’s rushed for over 800 yards and 17 touchdowns, thrown for nearly 500 yards and six more scores, and even lined up as a receiver, catching three passes for 120 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he’s a force, with 66 tackles, an interception, and two fumble recoveries — one taken all the way back for six.
But football is just part of the story. NuNu’s a multi-sport standout, competing in baseball, basketball, cross country, track, and tennis — a rare combination of talent, toughness, and tenacity that defines East Texas athletics.
Welcome to “bEASTtexas Conversations” on The Write Team Podcast, where we shine a light on the athletes, coaches, and personalities who make East Texas sports the best in Texas. Around here, the games are big, but the stories are even bigger.

For years, the voice of Charlie Chitwood has provided a soundtrack to East Texas Friday nights and Saturday afternoons — from his early days calling Jefferson High Bulldogs football to a decade behind the mic as the voice of the East Texas Baptist University Tigers. Charlie's passion for the game, his connection to the community, and his genuine love for the people who make East Texas sports so special have made him a trusted voice and a familiar friend to fans across our region -- and beyond.
Now, as the voice of East Texas A&M in Commerce, Charlie continues that tradition, bringing his trademark storytelling and enthusiasm to a new era of East Texas athletics. It’s a conversation about perseverance, legacy, and a literal love of the game.

Mrs. Jodi Morgan, a former Elysian Fields ISD teacher, has taken her passion for helping students and poured it into something new — Café Mojo, a local coffee house that’s become a gathering place for connection, encouragement, and opportunity. Through her business, she continues to invest in students, offering them not just jobs, but confidence, mentorship, and a pathway to their future. It’s a story about how teaching doesn’t always end when the bell rings — and how one teacher’s influence can keep on brewing long after the classroom lights go out.
Welcome to “School House Rocks" on The Write Team Podcast, where we share the stories of people who make our schools—and our communities—come alive. These are the teachers, students, and everyday heroes whose impact on the community around them doesn’t stop at the classroom door.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
All Biblical knowledge and wisdom, truth and peace, begins with each individual’s belief in whether or not God does indeed exist. If you believe he does, then you will believe that he indeed is the God who was there in the beginning – just as the book says.

David and Matt are back this week with a look back at some of the key weekend games in East Texas, including Texas High/Hallsville; Beckville/Elysian Fields; Highland Park/Tyler; Gladewater/Jefferson, and more. In the college ranks, FSU's loss sends shock waves through an already chaotic ACC, while Arizona State marks its territory as defending champs in the Big 12. Where does Arkansas go from here? Has Texas A&M finally turned a corner? And, a big win for 'Bama at Georgia. Then we discuss the wild finish to the SNF game in AT&T Stadium, as well as examining the question: are the Eagles the most fraudulent, maddening 4-0 defending Super Bowl champion in history? Join us for all this and more on this episode of Sports, Old School, here on The Write Team Podcast!
